Ο καρδιακός ρυθμός ηρεμίας ή RHR (αγγλικά resting heart rate) δηλώνει τον αριθμό των καρδιακών παλμών ανά λεπτό. Αυτή η τιμή μετριέται σε κατάσταση ηρεμίας, χωρίς σωματική προσπάθεια ή ψυχική ένταση. Σε έναν υγιή ενήλικα η τιμή του RHR κυμαίνεται μεταξύ 60-80 παλμών ανά λεπτό.1
Γενικά ισχύει ότι χαμηλότερος καρδιακός ρυθμός ηρεμίας υποδηλώνει καλύτερη γενική φυσική κατάσταση (δηλαδή ότι η καρδιά είναι πιο αποδοτική).1, 2, 3 Σε κορυφαίους αθλητές αντοχής, όπως δρομείς ή ποδηλάτες, ο RHR κυμαίνεται συνήθως μεταξύ 30-40 παλμών ανά λεπτό.4

Πώς να μετρήσεις μόνος σου τον παλμό σου;
Ο RHR μπορεί να μετρηθεί κατά τη διάρκεια ΗΚΓ, κατά τη μέτρηση πίεσης στον γιατρό ή μπορείς να τον μετρήσεις μόνος σου στο σπίτι. Κάθισε έτσι ώστε και τα δύο πόδια να αγγίζουν το έδαφος, ή ξάπλωσε ανάσκελα
- Μετά από 5 λεπτά απόλυτης ηρεμίας, ψηλάφησε μία από τις καρωτίδες αρτηρίες (αριστερά ή δεξιά από την τραχεία)
- Τοποθέτησε τον δείκτη και τον μέσο σε αυτό το σημείο· μόλις εντοπίσεις τον παλμό, μέτρησε τον αριθμό των παλμών σε 15 δευτερόλεπτα.
- Πολλαπλασίασε αυτόν τον αριθμό επί τέσσερα και θα λάβεις τον RHR.1
Ο RHR μπορεί να μετρηθεί αρκετά ακριβώς και με αθλητικά ή smartwatch. Τα Garmin, Coros, Suunto ή Polar είναι σήμερα ήδη πολύ ακριβή και επαρκούν για την ένδειξη του καρδιακού ρυθμού ηρεμίας. Τα ρολόγια Apple φτάνουν συνήθως σε παρόμοιες τιμές. Τις πιο ακριβείς τιμές RHR εκτός ιατρείου θα πετύχεις σαφώς με μέτρηση μέσω θωρακικού ιμάντα ή πιεσόμετρου.
Πολύ υψηλός ή πολύ χαμηλός καρδιακός ρυθμός ηρεμίας;
Αν η τιμή του καρδιακού σου ρυθμού ηρεμίας διαφέρει από τον μέσο όρο 60-80 παλμών ανά λεπτό
Βραδυκαρδία (RHR < 60)
Η βραδυκαρδία χαρακτηρίζεται από καρδιακό ρυθμό ηρεμίας χαμηλότερο από 60 παλμούς ανά λεπτό. Αυτή η κατάσταση συνήθως δεν είναι επικίνδυνη για την υγεία, ωστόσο σε ανθρώπους που δεν είναι σωματικά δραστήριοι μπορεί να προκαλέσει συμπτώματα όπως κόπωση, αδυναμία ή ζαλάδες. Σε αθλητές η βραδυκαρδία είναι συνηθισμένο φαινόμενο.4
Ταχυκαρδία (RHR > 80)
Από την άλλη πλευρά, η ταχυκαρδία ορίζεται ως καρδιακός ρυθμός ηρεμίας υψηλότερος από 80 παλμούς το λεπτό. Η ταχυκαρδία μπορεί να αποτελεί κίνδυνο για την υγεία, καθώς αποτελεί παράγοντα κινδύνου για την ανάπτυξη καρδιαγγειακών παθήσεων.5
Αν δεν είσαι αθλητής, συμβουλέψου γιατρό για αποκλίσεις προς οποιαδήποτε κατεύθυνση. Αν είσαι αθλητής με τακτική προπόνηση, η βραδυκαρδία θα είναι σε εσένα συνηθισμένο φαινόμενο.
Ποιοι παράγοντες επηρεάζουν τον καρδιακό ρυθμό ηρεμίας;
Τον καρδιακό ρυθμό ηρεμίας μπορούν να επηρεάσουν αρκετοί παράγοντες:
- Ηλικία: σύμφωνα με ορισμένες μελέτες, ο RHR μπορεί να αλλάζει με την ηλικία
- Φύλο: ο RHR των γυναικών είναι κατά μέσο όρο κατά 2-7 παλμούς ανά λεπτό υψηλότερος από αυτόν των ανδρών.
- Σωματικό βάρος: υψηλότερο σωματικό βάρος και παχυσαρκία μπορούν να οδηγήσουν σε υψηλότερο RHR.
- Συναισθήματα: έντονα αισθήματα στρες, άγχους ή ακόμη και ευτυχίας μπορούν να αυξήσουν τον RHR.
- Θέση του σώματος: ο RHR μπορεί να είναι κατά 3 παλμούς ανά λεπτό υψηλότερος όταν κάθεσαι απ' ό,τι όταν ξαπλώνεις. Ομοίως, ο RHR τείνει να αυξάνεται λίγο όταν στέκεσαι όρθιος.
- Φάρμακα και λοιμώξεις: συνταγογραφούμενα φάρμακα, όπως αντικαταθλιπτικά και β-αναστολείς, μπορούν να προκαλέσουν χαμηλότερο RHR απ' ό,τι χωρίς φάρμακα. Λοιμώξεις που προκαλούν πυρετό μπορούν να αυξήσουν τον καρδιακό σου ρυθμό.
- Θερμοκρασία αέρα: ο RHR μπορεί να αυξηθεί κατά τη διάρκεια ζεστού καιρού, αλλά συνήθως όχι περισσότερο από 10 παλμούς ανά λεπτό.
- Κάπνισμα και καφεΐνη: αν καπνίζεις ή έχεις πιει καφέ πριν τη μέτρηση, ο καρδιακός σου ρυθμός μπορεί να είναι αυξημένος.
- Ο καρδιακός ρυθμός ηρεμίας σου μπορεί να είναι υψηλός αν πάσχεις από υπερθυρεοειδισμό, και χαμηλός αν έχεις υποθυρεοειδισμό.
- Χαμηλά επίπεδα αιμοσφαιρίνης (αναιμία) μπορούν να αυξήσουν τον καρδιακό σου ρυθμό.2, 3
