Der Ruhepuls bzw. RHR (englisch resting heart rate) gibt die Anzahl der Herzschläge pro Minute an. Dieser Wert wird im Ruhezustand gemessen, ohne körperliche Belastung oder psychische Anspannung. Bei einem gesunden erwachsenen Menschen liegt der RHR-Wert zwischen 60–80 Schlägen pro Minute.1
Generell gilt: ein niedrigerer Ruhepuls weist auf eine bessere allgemeine Fitness hin (das heißt, dass das Herz leistungsfähiger ist).1, 2, 3 Bei Elite-Ausdauersportlern, wie Läufern oder Radfahrern, liegt der RHR üblicherweise zwischen 30–40 Schlägen pro Minute.4

Wie kann ich meinen Puls selbst messen?
Der RHR kann während eines EKGs, bei einer Blutdruckmessung beim Arzt oder selbst zu Hause gemessen werden. Setz dich so hin, dass beide Füße den Boden berühren, oder leg dich auf den Rücken
- Nach 5 Minuten völliger Ruhe taste eine der Halsschlagadern ab (links oder rechts von der Luftröhre)
- Lege Zeige- und Mittelfinger auf diese Stelle; sobald du den Puls fühlst, zähle die Anzahl der Schläge in 15 Sekunden.
- Multipliziere diese Zahl mit vier, um den RHR zu erhalten.1
Der RHR lässt sich auch relativ genau mit Sport- oder Smartwatches messen. Garmin, Coros, Suunto oder Polar sind heutzutage bereits sehr genau, und für die Anzeige des Ruhepulses reicht ihre Verwendung aus. Apple Watches erzielen meist ähnliche Werte. Die genauesten RHR-Werte außerhalb der Arztpraxis erzielst du eindeutig mit einem Brustgurt oder einem Blutdruckmessgerät.
Zu hoher oder zu niedriger Ruhepuls?
Wenn dein Ruhepulswert vom Durchschnitt von 60–80 Schlägen pro Minute abweicht
Bradykardie (RHR < 60)
Bradykardie ist durch einen Ruhepuls von weniger als 60 Schlägen pro Minute gekennzeichnet. Dieser Zustand ist in der Regel nicht gesundheitsgefährdend, kann aber bei Menschen, die körperlich nicht aktiv sind, Symptome wie Müdigkeit, Schwäche oder Schwindel hervorrufen. Bei Sportlern ist Bradykardie ein häufiges Phänomen.4
Tachykardie (RHR > 80)
Auf der anderen Seite wird Tachykardie als ein Ruhepuls von mehr als 80 Schlägen pro Minute definiert. Tachykardie kann ein Gesundheitsrisiko darstellen, da sie einen Risikofaktor für die Entwicklung von Herz-Kreislauf-Erkrankungen darstellt.5
Wenn du kein Sportler bist, besprich Abweichungen in beide Richtungen mit einem Arzt. Wenn du Sportler mit regelmäßigem Training bist, ist Bradykardie bei dir ein normales Phänomen.
Welche Faktoren beeinflussen den Ruhepuls?
Der Ruhepuls kann von mehreren Faktoren beeinflusst werden:
- Alter: laut einigen Studien kann sich der RHR mit dem Alter verändern
- Geschlecht: der RHR von Frauen ist im Durchschnitt um 2–7 Schläge pro Minute höher als bei Männern.
- Körpergewicht: ein höheres Körpergewicht und Adipositas können zu einem höheren RHR führen.
- Emotionen: starke Gefühle von Stress, Angst oder sogar Glück können den RHR erhöhen.
- Körperhaltung: der RHR kann im Sitzen um 3 Schläge pro Minute höher sein als im Liegen. Ebenso neigt der RHR dazu, im Stehen etwas anzusteigen.
- Medikamente und Infektionen: verschreibungspflichtige Medikamente wie Antidepressiva und Betablocker können dazu führen, dass der RHR niedriger ist als ohne Medikamente. Infektionen, die Fieber verursachen, können deinen Herzschlag erhöhen.
- Lufttemperatur: der RHR kann bei heißem Wetter ansteigen, in der Regel jedoch um nicht mehr als 10 Schläge pro Minute.
- Rauchen und Koffein: wenn du rauchst oder vor der Messung Kaffee getrunken hast, kann dein Herzschlag erhöht sein.
- Dein Ruhepuls kann hoch sein, wenn du an einer Schilddrüsenüberfunktion leidest, und niedrig, wenn du eine Schilddrüsenunterfunktion hast.
- Ein niedriger Hämoglobinspiegel (Anämie) kann deinen Herzschlag erhöhen.2, 3
